Listening is My Love Language
Hello, I’m Meng (Chloe) Shen, AMFT (CA #145659), based in Los Angeles, CA. My journey into the field of mental health has been as diverse and enriching as the cities and cultures I've experienced since moving from China to the U.S. as a college student. My extensive travels and curiosity about different cultures have taught me that truly understanding a culture means listening to and respecting each individual's experiences. This has deeply informed my approach to therapy.
As a proud introvert, listening is my love language. I value the connections and possibilities that emerge from thoughtful, slow-paced, one-on-one conversations. I am deeply fascinated by the uniqueness of each individual—their strengths in moments of sorrow, their resilience in the face of the impossible. It is an honor and privilege to be trusted with my clients’ personal stories. In my practice, I focus on navigating cultural differences, building new communities, and addressing life dilemmas and the complexities of interpersonal relationships including parent-child relationships, social relationships and romantic relationships, and most importantly, our relationship with ourselves. Furthermore, my own personal experiences with grief, and serving as an end-of-life caretaker, have given me a profound understanding of the growth that can occur through grief and loss.
Before my career in mental health, I worked in tech, which sharpened my analytical skills and my appreciation for innovation. However, I found my true calling in mental health, where the profound connections I forge with my clients bring immense joy and meaning to my work.
Whether you're navigating personal challenges like life transitions, cultural adjustments, systemic inequalities, pursuing growth through grief, or unraveling the complexities of your relationships, I am here to listen and support your journey toward healing and self-discovery.

Approach to Therapy
My approach to therapy is both gentle and direct, tailored to foster a supportive and encouraging environment where you can explore your thoughts, emotions and values without any judgment. As a compassionate therapist with a multicultural background and fluency in both English and Mandarin Chinese, I bring a unique perspective to my practice. My personal journey of overcoming cultural barriers and embracing diversity fuels my passion for working with immigrants and children of immigrants. I am committed to hearing your untold stories and helping you find your voice, regardless of your background.
In our sessions, I practice with unconditional love and a non-judgmental attitude, which is fundamental to creating a space where you can openly express yourself. My therapeutic techniques are influenced by Narrative therapy, Gestalt therapy, relational and experiential methods, making our interactions explorative and dynamic. This means we will work together to listen, understand, accept, and provide new perspectives that will help you reflect and problem-solve effectively.
I believe in being fully present with my clients—laughing and crying with you as we navigate through your experiences. My curiosity about each individual's unique journey drives me to ask thoughtful questions that help you reflect and grow. Together, we will move beyond the challenges you face, unlocking new paths to healing and self-discovery.

When I’m Not Doing Therapy…
Outside the therapy room, I immerse myself in a variety of enriching activities. Experimenting with global cuisine allows me to explore diverse cultures through their flavors, offering a taste of travel in every dish. My weekends are often spent in nature, hiking with my dogs or tending to my garden, where I take a moment to appreciate the simple beauty of the roses. I'm also dedicated to personal growth, which leads me to continually learn new skills, whether it's mastering a new language or refining my pottery technique. Each winter, I don’t miss a chance to hit the slopes to snowboard. For me, life is about continuous learning and savoring the myriad experiences it has to offer.
